I was shocked when I came across the above quote a few months ago. Bernays had it figured out 84 years ago...His vision of a society manipulated by a small number of governing elite who believe they know better than the masses has come to fruition...Manipulation of the masses through a relentless never ending barrage of propaganda disguised as news and unremitting false advertising is designed to control and herd the cattle into the slaughterhouse. We are given the illusion of free choice, when in reality the choices are being made for us by a chosen few who think they know what is best. These puppeteers controlling the strings inhabit the financial, government and corporate halls of power. Their purpose is not to benefit society and its citizens but to protect their wealth and influence, using any means at their disposal. Catherine Graves, now 45, even hired a private detective. But it wasn't another woman who was the problem -- it was an aggressive and fatal brain tumor that had slowly caused personality changes and eventually killed her husband of only five years.
"I faced a harsh reality," she said. "I thought I would be spending the rest of my life with him."
Graves said the crumbling marriage and then the exhausting care-giving that followed also caused her to lose her mind, a phenomenon that is all too common when family members are left without support to care for sick and dying loved ones...

"I didn't leave the house for six months," she said. "I was homebound and had no interaction with other people."
Even the medical professionals had little sympathy, she said.
"It was so about the patient -- there was nothing for me," she said.

But after he died, she never dealt with the grief and plunged forward on "autopilot," even dating. Eventually the stress of caregiving hit her.
"I crashed," said Graves, who eventually sought counseling and was put in an intensive outpatient treatment program.
She was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress and dissociative disorder.
"I check out mentally," she said. "On the outside I looked normal, but I was so disconnected and far away. ... I had alienated myself from everyone, even from myself."
Care-giving experts like Lynn Feinberg of AARP say that caregiver stress is a "huge issue."

Most people have not pieced together the works to the extent that Levin does here, but these works fill typical secondary education curriculums, they are not exotic or pointy-headed. I’m most interested — and delighted — that Levin wrote this book for 2012: philosophy and statesmanship matter most when a state is in decline, and Levin is smart enough to recognize both that philosophy must be the matter of the day and that those who love freedom embrace the challenge of the discussion.
Levin’s first five chapters — Part One of Ameritopia – discuss the utopian works of the ones mentioned above. A lasting benefit of these chapters: exposing to present day utopians — today most active under the flag of socialism — that they are not, in fact, at the cutting edge of human reasoning.
An actual contender for “irony of ironies”: every age and nation is hampered by utopians who support ignoring the prior experiences of humanity, and because of their ignorance, they believe they are cutting-edge. (Levin does mention that we do not know Plato’s motivations for describing the tyrannical Republic.) The utopians appear in the Bible — a book presently neglected by most socialists — as false prophets; utopians generally appear everywhere, and probably began preaching shortly after man cultivated farmland. And this isn’t important just as a general observation: ignorant men attempting to transcend natural law is the primary — the only — struggle of human society; what could be more important than that?

PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Mexico (AP) — Authorities in northern Mexico say police have found five severed human heads at several points around the city of Torreon accompanied by threatening message referring to drug gangs.
Coahuila state prosecutors spokesman Fernando Olivas says the male heads were tucked inside bags along with handwritten notes attached. He hasn't revealed the exact messages...............

With all the extensive research that I've done on Islam, I am grieved over the ill treatment that Muslim women receive from their males. But, I find it mind-boggling when some of the abuse directed at these women comes from other women. How can that be? I guess it is similar to cases we hear regarding abused people growing up to become abusers themselves.
Read this horrific story coming out of Afghanistan, and imagine the pain the 15-year-old experienced. These people are truly monsters. And to think that we are giving our blood and resources to such people.

Bamako - The Mauritanian Hamada Ould Mohamed Kheirou, presumed leader of an armed Islamist group active in west Africa, has again threatened France with war in a video seen Tuesday by an AFP journalist.
"We again declare war on France, which is hostile to the interests of Islam," Kheirou said in Arabic, wearing dark glasses and with his head wrapped in a turban. "The jihad [holy war] will be exported everywhere it is necessary and for God, we must be ready for anything."
The video also showed images of three Westerners - a Spanish man and woman and an Italian woman - who were kidnapped late in October in a camp for Sahrawi refugees near Tindouf in southern Algeria.
